What's new in Net-Pass 5.00
April 1998
Whats new in Net-Pass 5.00 . Enhanced Cross-Application Communication Facility The Cross-Application Communication Facility has been enhanced to provide several additional options: Returning data to the origin application. Using dynamic dialogs. Switching to target application. Returning screen images from target applications. Returning data to the origin application The Cross-Application Communication Facility allows an application (origin) to invoke a transaction in another application (target) and receive the output data, without requiring modifications in the target application or using Net-Pass exits. Using this Net-Pass capability, a control application can easily be developed so as to execute transactions in a variety of applications (CICS, IMS, TSO, VM, NetView, etc.) and return specific data sections from the output screens. When returning data to the origin application, Net-Pass uses the standard input-output mechanism. This means that, after issuing a SENDAPL command, the origin application switches to input mode in order to receive the returned data. The data is returned to a specific field on the origin application screen, as if it were typed by a user. Using dynamic dialogs Net-Pass dialogs can be activated in a target application in order to determine when data should be sent to the origin application. For example, a target application can send the requested data when a certain string appears on the output screen. Such dialogs can now be defined dynamically, using the Dynamic Dialogs facility. This facility allows the user or the application to have complete control over the dialogs to be executed in a target application, without having to depend on the TP administrator. A dynamic dialog can easily be defined using two Net-Pass commands, DEF and DEL. Switching to target application The SENDAPL command can also be used to automatically pass control to a target application. The SENDAPL buffer can include the request to switch to the target application without having to send a special SENDCMD buffer for this purpose. Returning screen images from target applications The QUERY command supports a new feature - QUERY IMAGE , which supplies the screen images of the applications active in a Net-Pass session. This feature enables an origin application to request, at any time, a screen image of the output screens of each of a users applications, without having to execute a transaction. The output data can be transmitted all at one, or in several packets, as requested by the origin application. Full Year 2000 Compatibility

Net-Pass version 5.00 is fully Year 2000 compatible. Date fields on all Net-Pass Menus have been altered to accommodate the Date format selected in the Sysparm DATE parameter, to which new options have been added accordingly.

Full LPAR accommodation in Net-Pass authorization zaps

Users operating Net-Pass in a multiple-CPU environment can receive authorization for all the licensed CPUs in their organization, in one zap.

New Windows/3270 Internal Protection Feature

Windows/3270 users will now benefit from enhanced abend protection. This internal feature is transparent to the user, while increasing the robustness of Windows/3270 applications.
